2024-12-07 14:27:11The School currently has 64 full-time instructors, including 16 professors and 21 associate professors. Eight faculty members have been awarded the National Special Education Gardener Award, one has been named a National Outstanding Counselor, one has received the National Advanced Individual Award for Assisting Disabled Persons, three hold national-level expert titles in relevant fields, and two are recognized as Jilin Province Special Education Training Experts.
Since 2005, the School has received 11 provincial or higher-level teaching achievement awards, including two Second Prizes for National Teaching Achievements, one Grand Prize for Provincial Teaching Achievements, and five First Prizes for Provincial Teaching Achievements. It has also been awarded the title of National Advanced Collective in Textbook Development and has established a national characteristic specialty as well as a National Innovation Experimental Zone for Talent Training Models.
The School has established one National First-Class Program Construction Site and two Provincial First-Class Program Construction Site, with its Special Education program accredited under the second-tier certification for teacher education programs.
Since 2004, the School has pioneered inclusive education in higher education institutions. In 2017, it was designated as a pilot unit for higher education inclusive education for persons with disabilities by the Ministry of Education and the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF) and successfully passed the evaluation.
In 2023, the School was approved as a Jilin Province Language Promotion Base and undertook the Classics Nourishing Rural Culture initiative by the Department of Language Application and Administration of the Ministry of Education, contributing to the promotion and application of the National Standard Sign Language and the National Standard Braille.
The School has been approved for the establishment of the Key Laboratory of Intelligent Rehabilitation and Barrier-Free for the Disabled under the Ministry of Education, and the Special Education Research Center has been assessed as a Key Research Base for Humanities and Social Sciences in Jilin Provincial Universities. Relying on these two scientific research platforms, in recent years, the School has hosted over 100 provincial, ministerial or higher-level research projects, with nearly ten million yuan in research funding received.
Maximizing its strengths in higher education for special education, the university provides policy consultation services to relevant authorities. It has undertaken over 20 training programs commissioned by Belt and Road Initiative countries, CDPF, Jilin Province, and the Macao Special Administrative Region Government, training more than 900 individuals, including officials of disabled persons' federations, disability service providers, and special education teachers at various levels.
The School has established strong collaborative and exchange relationships with institutions such as Gallaudet University (USA), St. Cloud State University (USA), the National Technical Institute for the Deaf at Rochester Institute of Technology (USA), the Deaf Center at Bauman Moscow State Technical University (Russia), Tsukuba University of Technology (Japan), and Hiroshima University (Japan). Additionally, the Changchun University-Hiroshima University Special Education Support Center was established. To date, nearly 100 students have participated in exchange programs organized by the School, yielding significant results in international academic cooperation.
