The School of Foreign Languages adheres to the cultivation philosophy of "solid foundation, strong abilities, and high quality." It aims to nurture application-oriented foreign language talents who possess knowledge of language, literature, and regional and cultural knowledge of the target language countries. These talents are also expected to have an international perspective, a sense of patriotism, strong cross-cultural communication skills, and comprehensive language application capabilities.

The School has established talent cultivation models such as "Russian + a Slavic Language (Polish or Ukrainian)," "English + Spanish," and "Japanese + Korean," forming a distinctive "Bilingual + Translation" talent cultivation system.

It has developed a new model for cultivating translation and interpreting professionals under the national "Belt and Road" initiative, contributing a large number of high-end talents who effectively convey China's voice to the world.

Currently, the School has one Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI) program, offering three professional tracks: English translation, Russian translation, and Korean translation. It also boasts one national first-class undergraduate program construction site and one Jilin Province "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" undergraduate characteristic program.

The School has 121 full-time instructors, including 13 professors, 38 associate professors, 22 Ph.D. holders, and 11 doctoral candidates. Among the faculty, there are two experts who serve as reviewers for national and provincial social science fund projects, four members of the the Advisory Committee on Undergraduate Education of Jilin Province Higher Education Institutions, one expert enjoying the special government allowance of the State Council, one Distinguished Professor under the Changbai Mountain Scholars Program of Jilin Province, one provincial discipline leading professor, one provincial distinguished teacher, one provincial top-notch innovative talent, one Outstanding Contribution Expert in Changchun City, one recipient of the May 1st Labor Medal of Changchun, and one university-level distinguished teacher. Additionally, there is one member of the Union of Russian Writers, one member of the Union of Translators of Russia, one enterprise translation mentor, 13 double-position teachers, 12 IELTS examiners, and four Cambridge Business English examiners.

Over the past five years, a total of 170 academic papers have been published, including 7 indexed by SCI, SSCI, and AHCI. The faculty has undertaken 57 national and provincial-level research projects. Additionally, they have been honored with 1 Science Research Famous Achievement Award in Higher Institution, 1 second-place Provincial Teaching Achievement Award, and 2 University-level Teaching Achievement Awards.

The School currently operates 5 university-level research platforms and collaborates with 28 off-campus practice bases. Furthermore, students have secured 16 national-level and 39 provincial-level innovation and entrepreneurship projects.
